Rita Katherine Jansen

IOWA CITY, Iowa--Rita Katherine Jansen, 70, of Lone Tree passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree. Father Michael Spiekermeier and Carol Kaalberg, Cluster Coordinator, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in rural Nichols. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree.

Visitation will be from 4:30 until 6 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services with a 6 p.m. rosary service. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Rita.

Rita was born on September 11, 1943, in Iowa City, the daughter of Henry and Emmerita Jansen. Rita received her Bachelor Degree from Marycrest College in Davenport. She was a secretary for the Law School at the University of Iowa.

Rita was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree.

Rita will be deeply missed by her siblings, John Jansen and wife, Martha, of Duarte, California, Barbara Gannon and husband, Richard, of Newton, and Greg Jansen and wife, Deb, of Lone Tree; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Stephen Jansen.
