I knew Alvin or "Alvie" as most of us from the neighborhood called him from an early age. I can't tell you when I came to know him but I'm guessing it was one of our many hastily arranged ball games we enjoyed in the summer months in the Franklin School area. He was a couple years older than me but as I recall never being picked on like young kids would do back then. I seem to recall him making a silly comment and his brother Keith saying something in return. All the school kids within 2 -3 years age difference knew one another and were often involved in a ball game or fishing. I remained friends with Alvin through the years and would see him now and then. We always had friendly conversations and I enjoyed his company. I will always remember him as a lifelong friend, of the kind that came from your youth and those are the ones that seem to last throughout your lifetime. He was my friend.
