MUSCATINE, Iowa - Edwin Robert Bollinger, 82, of Muscatine, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Lutheran Living.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Chaplain Steve Anderson of Unity Point Hospice will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post No 27 and the V.F.W. Post No 1565. A time of food and fellowship will follow the committal service at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 2 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Paws for Veterans, to provide our nations combat injured Heroes that suffer with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and affiliated physical disabilities with task trained medical service dogs. "Bob" was the oldest son of Harold M. and Ruth D. Bollinger, and was born on January 14, 1935, in Muscatine.
In his younger years Bob delivered the Des Moines Register to Muscatine residents on West Second and West Third Street. He was always having fun with his dog, Chang, roller skating, while singing Onward Christian Solders. Riding his bike and Whizzer motorbike were also favorite past times of Bob's. He loved hunting and fishing with his dad.
Bob graduated from Muscatine High School, class of 1953, and attended Muscatine Junior College. Shortly after graduating from Muscatine Junior College, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from August 28, 1957 until August 27, 1959. He trained in Fort Carson, Colorado and was discharged from Fort Riley, Kansas, in the First Infantry Division. After being discharged from active duty he served in the reserves for two years.
He loved the outdoors and took a job with Hahn Sand and Gravel, retiring after 47 years. Bob was a strong, generous, hardworking man, and always enjoyed spending time with family. He loved to travel, especially out west, and enjoyed classical music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Those left to honor his memory include one brother, Douglas B. Bollinger and wife, Jeanne, of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, JoAnn Gibson and husband, Monte, of Morton, Illinois, Beth Campbell and husband, Rod, of Davenport, and Debra Smith and husband, Jeffrey, of Windsor, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold M. and Ruth D. Bollinger.
