MUSCATINE, Iowa - Lee C. Miller, 77, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at UnityPoint Hospital in Muscatine.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Greenwood Cemetery. Deacon Jason Bowden will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post #27 and the V.F.W. Post #1565. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Tracy Holladay. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Lee was born on November 29, 1939, in Muscatine, the son of Samuel and Irene Odell Miller. He married Sally O'Leary on February 15, 1958, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2011.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving for 12 years.
He was a contract administrator for Stanley Consultants until his retirement. He was an author publishing two books. He was an active member of the American Legion/V.F.W. Honor Guard. Lee was also instrumental in the replacement of the Civil War Statue at the Muscatine Court House and the renaming of the by-pass to "Douglas King Memorial Highway". He received the citizen of the year award from the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce in 2011.
Those left to honor his memory include five children, Tammy Rominger and husband, Bill, of Muscatine, Denny Miller of Muscatine, Kathy Verslues and husband, Gary, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jennifer Bowden and husband, Jason, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Tracy Holladay and husband, Cory, of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Trina Dublo, Marci Rominger, Drew Rominger, Thomas Verslues, Hannah Verslues, Jordan Bowden, Ryan Miller, Sam Bloomhuff, and Caiti Bloomhuff; four great-grandchildren, Madison Atkins, Alana Rominger, Dixi Miller, and Timber Miller; one brother, Ron Miller and wife, Deanne, of Muscatine; and one sister, Cindy Dierickx and husband, Bob, of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, David Miller; one grandson, Jacob Bowden; and two brothers, Jim Miller and Richard Miller.
