Hazel Mae Carpenter Bierman
PLEASANT HILL--Hazel Bierman was born on January 17, 1913, and died eight days after her 99th birthday. She is now in the presence of her Lord.

Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Adelphi Baptist Church, 7925 Vandalia Road, Des Moines, IA 50237.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Westover Funeral Home, 63rd and Hickman Rd., Des Moines and also one hour prior to the service at the church where the family will receive friends. The family would like to thank Parkridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Pleasant Hill where Mom has resided since March 16, 2009 and all of the doctors, nurses, friends and family for their support and love during this difficult time.

Hazel married Howard LaRue Bierman on November 4, 1933. In 1938, they celebrated the birth of their twin boys, Harold and Darold. After graduating from high school in 1931, she was recruited for semi-pro basketball but declined due to her husband's wishes and a previous knee injury.

After her husband, Howard, passed away June 1, 1989, she continued to live alone until moving to assisted living at 93 years old.

Hazel loved sports, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family. She loved visits from her family. Hazel loved attending Adelphi Baptist Church where she was a member.

Hazel is survived by her twin sons, Harold Bierman and wife, Barbara, and Darold Bierman; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim Carpenter of Minnesota, and Harold Carpenter of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
