BOB ‘SMOKEY’ HALLING

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Bob ‘Smokey’ Halling, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on December 1, 1941, on the family farm in Muscatine, the son of Vernon and Myrtle Brossart Halling. On October 1, 1983 he married the love of his life, Robin Heath in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Muscatine High School, Bob went on to get several trade certifications including his Commercial Driving License. This allowed him to do what he loved, driving a truck across the United States. He also enjoyed farming, restoring tractors, and riding horses. When he was younger his favorite past time was racing cars, in which he’d proudly tell you he was unbeatable. Smokey as he was called by his many friends, was honest, hardworking, and loved playing frisbee with his loyal dog pal, Frosty. Most of all he loved his family!

Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Robin Halling of Muscatine; their children, Ed (Jenni) Heath of Muscatine, Tiffany (Roger) Gehling of Des Moines, Shane (Kara) Halling of Wapello, and Bret (Lynne) Whitlow of Muscatine; grandchildren, Levi (Tessa), Dakota, Kelsey, and Kendall Heath, Samantha, Max, Lily, and Calvin Gehling, Heath and Sophia Halling, Evan, Kendall, Donovan, Zackary, and Kellyn (Jordan) Champion; several great grandchildren; and siblings, Bill Halling of Muscatine, and Einiyah Ben-elyon of Minnesota along with a large extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Whitlow; infant sister, Marion Jean Halling; and sister-in-law, Chris Halling.

Bob’s family would like to extend a thank you to the Iowa City Hospice staff for their superb care and compassion.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich- Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Maryann Reimund will officiate. Burial will be in Harker Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Happy Tails Ranch and Rescue in Iowa City, IA or National Kidney Foundation.
