JOSEPH ALLEN GAYLOR

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Joseph ‘Joe’ Allen Gaylor, 68, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Reverend Susan Bantz will officiate. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society and online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Joe was born on August 3, 1955, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Billy Dean Gaylor and Marjorie Louise Lyons. He married Alice Garrett on September 8, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a police officer in the surrounding area. He later worked as a letter carrier for the Muscatine US Post Office and retired in 2017 after many years of service. He had an outgoing personality and was known as “Mailman Joe”.

Joe enjoyed playing golf, softball, tennis, and billiards. He loved going to the movies with his wife, Alice. Most of all, Joe was a family man and loved his grandchildren very much.

Joe is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Amanda Costello (Kory); son, Shawn Gaylor (Lisa); grandchildren, Courtney (Joey), Isabella (Dario), Tre of the US Marines (Sage), Donavin (Emily), Patience (Tristan), Addison, Leah, and Remi; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Randy Gaylor, Janet Smith (Billy), and Doug Lairmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Justice.
