LEOTA CHARLENE VAN EST

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Leota Charlene Van Est, 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by her family.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made in her honor, in care of her family. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Charlene was born on July 20, 1944, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Lawrence and Hazel Leota (Bradshaw) Johnson. She graduated from Washington High School and then beauty school. She worked as a beautician for many years. She was active in her church, had a heart of service and was loved by many.

She enjoyed knitting, reading and arts and crafts. She was excited about her first great grandbaby to be born in October. Most of all, she enjoyed and loved being with her family.

She is survived by four sons, Lester Gene (Kim) Arnold, David Allan (Linda) Arnold, Lance Leroy (Amy) Arnold, and Darin Joseph (Missy) Van Est; six grandchildren, Annie Arnold, Megan Arnold, Caitlyn (Max) Arnold, Rachel (Braeden) Kurriger, Jonathan (Camryn) Van Est, and Samantha English; four siblings, Judi (Larry) Duncan, Kirk (Sue) Johnson, Susan Gloyer, and Lori (Dave) Krieger; and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Charlene is preceded in death by her parents.
