Neil Padgett DAVENPORT, Iowa #45;- Neil Padgett, 60, Davenport, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at his home. Celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home,Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the home. Memorials may be directed to the J. Neil Padgett Memorial Fund. He was born on September 8, 1941, in Muscatine to John Wilson Padgett and Alice Louise Schomberg Padgett. He married Vicky (Kramer) McFate on August 17, 1996, in De Witt. He graduated in 1964 from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant then moved to DeWitt. He was a teacher and a coach at Central Community Schools in DeWitt for 35 years. He taught junior high science for two years, driver?s education until 1984 and the learning disabilities class until 1999. He coached junior high football and basketball for two years, was a boys?basketball assistant coach from 1966 - 67 and sophomore coach from 1967 - 69. He served as head coach from 1969 until retirement. He also coached sophomore baseball and was on the football staff. He was a member of the Iowa Basketball Association. In 1981 he coached the Iowa State Championship team in class 2A, was 1996 state coach of the year and was inducted in the basketball coaches hall of fame in 2001. He traveled with his wife, taught basketball and golfing. Survivors include his wife, Vicky Padgett, of Davenport; daughters, Stacy Klinefelter and husband, Brian, of De Witt, Kelly Galloway and husband, Scott, of De Witt, Kim Spain of Davenport, Lori McFate of Salisbury, North Carolina, Jodi Clifford and husband John of Bettendorf; a son, Chris Padgett of Chicago; his mother, Louise Padgett, a sister, Kathryn Padgett, a brother, Riley Padgett all of Letts; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John Padgett.
