William 'Bill' Shearer COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa #45;- William 'Bill' Shearer, 86, Columbus Junction, died Thursday, June 19, at Washington County Hospital, Washington. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 23, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. After the burial, there will be refreshments for family and friends at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, Columbus Junction. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Mr. Shearer was born on June 11, 1917, in Columbus Junction, the son of Brainard 'B.H.' and Maude Sarah Hanft Shearer. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1936. He attended the University of Iowa and Iowa Wesleyan College. He worked at the First National Bank, Tulsa, Okla., for 20 years before returning to the Columbus Junction area to take over as the editor of the Columbus Gazette Newspaper. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific area. He was a member of the American Legion and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Tulsa. He also was a member of Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother, Woodrow Shearer of Columbus Junction; nephews, Mark Shearer of Washington, Thomas Robertson of California and Jon Robertson of Florida; nieces, Lynne Shoultz of Des Moines and Jane Moon and her husband, Mike, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Shearer of Washington; and a special friend, Ruth Ingram of Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul V. Shearer; and a sister, Marine K. Robertson.
