What a nice man...I have such nice memories of Steve and Alex....what a joy to be around...he loved his wife and family dearly..prayers and the comfort only Jesus can bring to all of you...Blessings and Love....

Although I hadn't seen Steve in a few years, I have great memories of him from our days together at Foxx Hy-Reach. We went to lunch together almost every day, usually to the bowling alley down the street from work. We spent many years together working for Tom and whenever I talk to any of the gang from those days, Steve's name always comes up and always results in laughs and memories of good times. Steve was a great guy! Condolences to the Schaapveld family. Steve will be missed and thought of often. RIP old friend.

Steve and I went to St.Mary's School together and had fun times growing up and playing recess at 4th St.Park. As time went on, we had the pleasure of our kids growing up and playing sports together. Steve was a very smart individual and a hell of defensive basketball player for MHS, but coaches wanted him to shoot more. I remember celebrating our 40th birthdays together at Costigan's which was a surprise for us both. In his memory, we should all remember the good times.

JoAnn, Alex, and family we are very sorry for your loss. Steve was a class act and true friend to so many people. We will for ever remember his special smile and laugh that would always make you feel good.

I was a longtime school mate, teammate & roommate with Steve. Beginning at Hayes High, over to MHS, MCC & then roommates at UNI. I always looked up to Steve for guidance, wisdom & support. He was one of my closest friends & helped form many of the life choices & crossroads I choose. I got to spend some quality time with him 4 years ago, when I came back for Joe Weiskamp’s last high school games. We reminisced with many old basketball teammates & thoroughly enjoyed the time.

Our condolences. Many years ago our foamily, parents Ted and Alice Noll, spent time with the Schaapveld family. Steve was younger by 10 years than his brother Ron who was my class mate at Hayes Catholic graduating in 1961. I remember having good times together with the entire family. He was too young to pass. Thoughts and prayers for his family.

Thank you Carol Anthony for reaching out to me with this terrible news. I too meet Steve while attending St. Mary's grade school. I moved a great deal and missed several grades as a result. When I returned to St. Mary's we simply picked uo where we left off. I remember when we were kids Sombrero's we popular for a bit. We all wore one. I bet we are happy there are not pictures. Steve and I along with Diego Ferreira would ride bikes up and down the hills near St. Mary's. Oh what fun. Steve was so skilled, smart and kind. I had hoped to see him at the 50th High School Reunion but was told he was not well. I will miss him. Mike Haley-Reno, Nevada

I am heartbroken at this news. I met Steve in Kindergarten at St. Mary's grade school. I still remember our meeting. He was very shy, and I immediately loved him. We helped each other with classes, especially math and spacial awareness. When I was a cheerleader at MHS, I watched him excel at basketball and academics, and was proud of him for his accomplishments. We were friends most of our school days, going to the same university. I looked for him every class reunion, and we would hang out together and reminisce. I looked for him at our 50th reunion this past September, 2021, and he was not there. I missed him and asked about him. This is a great loss to me. Steve always felt like part of my entire life calendar, although I never told him that.
