Bill and I became friends when we started kindergarten together in 1935.. I have so many one on one (and two on one with Carl) fun memories. Our class reunions have been treasured times. Bill will be missed..

Bill was very welcoming to my late husband (Carl) and me when we came to Zion about a decade ago. I offer my sympathy as you mourn. His wife and I share Schomberg roots. I have given a gift to Zion in memory of Bill.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Bill was a good friend and also a good friend of my parents. We would have coffee now and then and always enjoyed talking to him after his retirement when I would see him at the Family Restaurant. Rest in peace my friend.

I called on Bill and Peggy for Pekin Insurance for many years. What a pleasure it was to spend time with them and go to lunch with Bill. What a gentleman. Even though I haven't seen Bill for many years, he will be missed. Great memories never go away

You know the day will come but never want it to. Even though I was 50 years younger, Bill Mark was one of my best friends.

I remember him for the secret town gossip that hid behind the twinkle in his eye, the way he would light up a room while simultaneously taking it all in, and his proper manner of going through life in his pressed, button-down shirts and dress slacks with his important notes and pen in his breast pocket.

His conversations of encouragement, yet his witty ability to make a joke, or wrap up a conversation to be on his way were all incredibly endearing to me.

He used to pick me up for omelets at the VFW while we took in an early morning Iowa Hawkeye game on the TV, or join me for a drink after work. You could often catch him transporting his beloved dog to the Humane Society for a secret run in their fenced yard. He took me to more than one Muscatine County Republican fundraiser all while knowing I was secretly a liberal Democrat, yet never stopped trying to convert me.

They don't make insurance agents like Bill anymore. He was a proud proprietor of a century-old Muscatine family business and once owned a desk that Mark Twain sat at!

I am heart-broken that I can't be at his service, yet with the Humane Society of Sarasota County's annual fundraiser upon us in my new Florida hometown, I know he would have understood. He loved his dog, and he loved the Muscatine Humane Society.

Today I am imagining him in heaven, seated next to the Honorable Mayor O'Brien, with their hands on the pews in church, anxiously awaiting their turn for communion, like two school kids getting their first sip of wine, just like the time they both made me laugh out loud at church at Zion Lutheran for doing just that.

Save me a seat Bill. And put in a good word with the big guy for our beloved Hawkeyes!

It was truly an honor delivering your newspaper, taking your ads, and being your friend.

Bill's personality was engaging and he loved visiting about any topic. I loved harassing Mayor O'Brien and Bill at church. May his soul rest in peace. Blessings from Dyann & Dave Roby
