AMADO CAVAZOS JR.

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Amado Cavazos Jr., 78, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family.

Rosary will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow the rosary at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Amado was born on December 10, 1947, in Mission, Texas, the son of Amado Cavazos Sr. and Maria Quintero Cavazos. He married Enriqueta ‘Mary’ Valenzuela on August 10, 1968, in Muscatine, Iowa.

Amado worked at GPC for the Pipe Fitters Union as a first-class craftsman in the maintenance department for 43 years.

Amado enjoyed crosswords, reading, especially the Quad City Times, watching jeopardy, and collecting TV Guides. He loved music, dancing, fishing with his wife, and taking her to the casino.  

Amado is survived by his wife, Mary Cavazos; children, Lupe (Shane) Cavazos Orr, Linda Cavazos, and Amado (Erin) Cavazos III; grandchildren, Lilah Cavazos-Pahl, Alexander Cavazos-Pahl, Michael Orr, Roosevelt Orr, Odysseus Orr, Jayden Cavazos, De’Vonee Cavazos, and Cienna Cavazos; sisters, Hilda C. (Andres) Campos and Maria ‘Nena’ (Steven) Frakes; and his longtime best friend, Bob Gallagher.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Cavazos; and siblings, Aminta ‘Amy’ Cavazos, San Juanita ‘Janie’ Dominguez, and Martin Valdez.
