CAROLE JEAN VAUPEL

MUSCATINE, IA – Carole Jean Vaupel, 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

A Celebration of Life for Carole will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 2pm - 5pm at the American Legion in Muscatine, 110 South Houser St. The Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at  www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Carole was born on December 7, 1947, in Iowa, to Clarence V. and Evelyn (Esbaum) Lamp. On November 27, 1970, she married the love of her life, Mike Vaupel, in Burlington, Iowa.

Carole began her career as a beautician, and later owned Lamp Insurance with her husband. 

Carole and Mike loved traveling with friends, whether it was relaxing in Mexico, taking cruises, or spending time at their home in Fort Myers. She found great joy in bringing people together, hosting memorable holiday celebrations for her family and preparing delicious meals for those she loved. She took pride in tending her beautiful gardens, spent time watching the birds in her backyard, and treasured Wednesday evening dinners filled with laughter and conversation alongside her closest friends. At home, one of her greatest comforts was spending time with her beloved dog, Kodi.

Above all, Carole’s greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her generous heart, sense of humor, unwavering love, and the special way she made every gathering feel like home.

Carole is lovingly survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Michael Vaupel; her children, Lori (Steve) Haack and Matt (Robyn) Vaupel; her grandchildren, Kasey (Wyatt) Travis, Connor Klemp, Nathan Vaupel, and Addison Vaupel; her great-granddaughter, Millie Travis; and her brothers, Ronald Lamp, Jerald (Diane) Lamp, and David (Sally) Lamp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence V. and Evelyn Lamp, and her sister-in-law, Connie Lamp.
