CLARENCE JOHN TOYNE

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Clarence John Toyne, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. A private burial will be in Melpine Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Muscatine.

Clarence was born on November 12, 1936, in Muscatine County, the son of Howard L. and Edna Bell Martz Toyne. He married Sandra Sloan on January 22, 1956, in Blue Grass, Iowa.

Clarence was a 1955 graduate of Muscatine High School. Clarence was a farmer; after retiring as a farmer, he worked in the Muscatine County Department. He was one of the original group of people to work on The Barn in Muscatine County after retirement. He was a past 4-H leader. He was a member of the First Christian Church and when younger, was a member of the Bits and Spurs Horse Club.

Clarence enjoyed working in the garden and his dogs. He also enjoyed camping all through the West with his wife and friends and even traveling East on a bus.  

Clarence is survived by his wife, Sandy Toyne; sons, Jeff Toyne, Randy (Lori) Toyne, and Eric (Melissa) Toyne; grandchildren, Corrine (Justin) Shay, Chad (Alexis Strause) Toyne, Jon (Megan) Toyne, and Erika (Chris) Fangman; and great grandchildren, Aidan Shay, Madi Shay, Emme Shay, Garrett Richardson, Wyatt Richardson, Noah Toyne, and Irelynn Toyne.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon; sister, Esther; and three great grandchildren.
