DARLENE A. LANGE (SHAY)

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Darlene A. Lange (Shay), 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Addington Place of Muscatine.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Darryl Erickson will officiate. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus in honor of Darlene. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Darlene was born on April 18, 1929, in Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Hazel Linville Ament. She married Donald L. Lange on April 17, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1997. She later married Dr. Eugene Shay in 2003. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2014.

Darlene worked in the office at Alliant Utilities for several years. She was a member of the Mulford Evangelical Church, Women of the Moose, and Elks Lodge.

To know Darlene is to have laughed with or to have shared a kind word, whether it was a close friend or stranger. Being a social butterfly was a special gift Darlene had and those around her were drawn to her infectious personality.

Darlene is survived by her granddaughter, Janell Townsley and her husband, Clinton, of Letts, Iowa, and their children, Jason Townsley and his wife, Rebecca, and Janessa Boley and her husband, Ryan; grandson, Jeff Siewert and his wife, Kristin, of Pella, Iowa, and their children, Zachary Siewert and Cole Siewert and his wife, Leah; great great grandchildren, Beau and Brantley Townsley and Ember Boley.

She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Donald and Dr. Eugene; daughter, Jolene Siewert and her husband, Don; and siblings, Betty Nevins and Bob Ament.
