MUSCATINE, IA – David Allen Honts, 71, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Accura

Visitation will be from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at: www.wittichfuneralhome.com

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

David was born in Muscatine on September 19th, 1954 son to Lynn Everett and Loretta Kate (Yeater) Honts

While in the Army, David met Jeanette Galvery in California and on January 10th, 1974 they married. 

David served for the United States Army for 8 years while in the service he was stationed in various places throughout the US and Germany. After moving back to Muscatine, David worked for Thatcher's Plastic, Doane Pet Care and HON until his health forced him to retire.

David had a great passion for food. He enjoyed making grape jelly from his vines, canning the peaches and apples that he grew himself along with gardening, but his greatest love was doing genealogy and to learn about his roots and family lineage. 

David was a jokester and had a sense of humor as you can tell by the photo he selected for his obituary, he was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "Grumpy Gramps" or for short "Grumpy." 

Even after David became confined to his own body, he found a way to stretch his environment, becoming an avid bird watcher, which kept him in good spirits and helped him pass the time.

David is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Christina (Jim Harold) Honts, Rachel (Jake) Sulzberger, Joseph Honts, Benjamin Honts, Adam (Jessica Tyler) Honts, and Davina (John) Bodman; their four children and David's other grandchildren include Nathan, Natalee, Austin, Sibya, Jasper, Melania, Desiera, Tayloranne, Trinity, Tesla, Gabriel, Nasien, Anthony, Kaden, Nathaniel, Sylar, Lanie, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Cory "The Pro" Honts and Frank Kelly Honts, his granddaughter Tempest, and his siblings Linda Cozine, Barb Anson, and Dennis Honts.
