David L. Metz Obituary

DAVID L. METZ

MUSCATINE, Iowa – David L. Metz, born June 8, 1941, died after a long illness at the University of Iowa Hospitals on June 9, 2025, a day after having celebrated his 84th birthday. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he graduated from Marquette University High School and attended Marquette University where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1964.

Following graduation, he served with the Peace Corps in Ecuador. He joined Stanley Consultants in Muscatine, IA in 1969, where he took pride in participating in bringing electricity to nine million people in the Philippines, and water to several thousand people in Jordan. Among his personal highlights included working, living, and learning the cultures of more than nine countries in West Africa, the Philippines, the Middle East, the Caribbean and North, Central, and South America.

Dave believed in serving God through his ministries as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Choir Member at the Ss. Mary and Mathias Catholic Church, and choir member at his current parish, Our Lady of Victory in Davenport. He served as Council President of the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Parish Council during its inception and where his Spanish was put to good use.

Dave was known for his jokes (sick or otherwise), and repeating them for the umpteenth time, which drove his wife nuts. He enjoyed bowling, had three 300 games, and together with his wife was awarded the 2024 Sponsors of the Year Award by the Muscatine Bowling Association. He enjoyed woodworking and considered himself a woodworker after his retirement. He was a Packers fan and shareholder.

Dave is survived by his wife, Ciony, who he married in 1976; his siblings, Rev. Kenneth Metz, Paul J. Metz, Mary Faith Metz, and Ruth Ann (Paul) Kurtin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Frances (Dagelen) Metz and sister-in-law, Lynette Metz (Paul J.).

And a special thank you to the outstanding staff of the CVICU at the University of Iowa Hospitals, who cared for Dave in his final days.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Our Lady of Victory Parish Church, 4105 N Division St., Davenport, IA, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Instead of flowers, a donation to the Diocese of Davenport Vocation Fund would be appreciated.
