Debora ‘Debbie’ Jean Mussehl, 57, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with ALS.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the St. Mary Mathias Church. Father Andrew Rauenbuehler will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Debbie’s nephews, Tom Anderson, Jeff Kranz, Matt Kranz, T.J. Riley, Ben Flaherty, Tyler Mussehl, Dan Schroeder, and Chad Beissel. Food and celebration of Deb’s life will be held at the Rendezvous immediately following burial.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Debbie was born on January 31, 1966, in Santa Ana, California, the daughter of Thomas J. and Lois D. Schaum Leibeck. She married Brian J. Mussehl on April 28, 1990, in Muscatine at the St. Mary Mathias Church.

Debbie was a member of the Ss. Mary Mathias Parish and was a 1984 graduate of Muscatine High School. Debbie and her husband owned and operated West Side Store from 1998-2019. She also worked as a financial secretary at the Calvary Church for several years.

Debbie was an avid Muskie, Hawkeye and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She enjoyed going to many sporting events supporting her three boys. Debbie was the best mother and loving wife and always cherished her family and enjoyed being a grandma.

Debbie is survived by husband, Brian; sons, Nick Mussehl, Adam Mussehl and wife, Taryn, and Jacob Mussehl; granddaughter, Lea; mother, Lois; siblings, Diana Anderson and husband, Curt, of Apopka, FL, Jackie Kranz and husband, Pete, of Hasting, MN, and Tina Leibeck of Hasting, MN; nieces and nephews, Tom Anderson and wife, Aimee, Brittany Flaherty and husband, Ben, Becky Beissel and husband, Chad, Jeff Kranz and wife, Melissa, Matt Kranz, Brigette Peterson, and T.J. Riley; several great nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Phyllis Mussehl of Dubuque; brother-in-law, Tim Mussehl of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Kelly Mussehl of Dubuque; niece, Amy Schroeder and husband, Dan; nephew, Tyler Mussehl; and a great niece and a nephew.

She is preceded in death by her father in 2016; brother-in-law, Ron Mussehl in 2021; and father-in-law, Arthur Mussehl in 1998.

The family wishes to thank the ALS Association of Iowa, the Neurology team at the University of Iowa Hospital, Dr. Ben Pohl, and especially Steve Wieskamp for all his assistance through this process.
