MUSCATINE, Iowa – Donald E. Coss, 82, of Muscatine, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Iowa City VA Hospital.

Visitation will be held 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Walker will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Donald was born December 26, 1943, in Iowa City to Floyd and M. Iola Coss. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1963. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.

He married Patricia J. Reed on January 22, 1977, in Atalissa. He spent most of his professional career as a factory worker, employed at HON Industries, H.J. Heinz, and HWH Corporation before retiring in 2007. For a brief time, he also worked in automobile sales.

Donald attended Jesus Mission Church for many years and most recently was a member of Glad Tidings Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching ball games on television. A devout believer, he was deeply involved in his church.

During retirement, he enjoyed watching golf and Hallmark movies, walking his dog, tinkering in the yard, and visiting local establishments for a morning piece of pie and coffee.

Those left to honor his memory include his four sons: Matt (Melissa) Coss of Muscatine; Mark Coss of Davenport; Andrew (Jill) Coss of Whitestown, Indiana; and Ben Coss (Brandi Cawiezell) of Muscatine; his sister, Janice (Nevin) Roberts of Muscatine; and four grandchildren: Joseph, Carly, Violet, and Reid.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents, Floyd and M. Iola; his brother, Jerry; and sister-in-law, Joyce.
