DONALD CARL HENNING

Donald Carl Henning, 83, of Fruitland, passed away on September 28th, 2026, at home following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born May 15, 1943, to Raymond and Edna Henning.

Don attended Muscatine schools and graduated from Davenport West High School in 1961. He served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970. On June 18, 1966, he married Connie Curry. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Don was a journeyman meat cutter, a title he took great pride in. He was quick to point out that he was a meat cutter, not a butcher. Over the years, he managed meat departments in several locations and owned a meat market and grocery store. He took satisfaction in arranging a meat case that looked good and turned a profit.

Don enjoyed family vacations at Battle Lake in Minnesota and camping in the motorhome. He took pride in keeping his cars, trucks, and yard looking their best. In retirement, he came to appreciate the comfort of his recliner, Keystone Light beer, and the company of his yellow Labs, Blondie and Molly. Most of all, he was proud of his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Connie; his son, Mark (Angie) Henning; his daughter, Cindy (Bob) Dornbush; his grandchildren, Cole Henning and Lexi Henning; his step grandchildren, Jason Dornbush, Justin Dornbush, and Jacob (Kelsie) Dornbush; five step great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Steve (Laura) Curry, Sam (Mary) Curry, and Scott (Cathy) Curry; and niece, Melanie Newman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Edna Henning; his brother, Gary Henning; and his parents-in-law, Vern and Ruth Curry.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Fruitland Community Center, 104 Sand Run Rd, Fruitland, IA. Private services will be held with family.
