DOUGLAS HOWARD WAGG

LETTS, Iowa - Douglas Howard Wagg, 70, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at home.

Celebration of Life will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Letts Community Center. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Doug's honor, in care of his daughters, Stacy or Amanda.

Burial will be in Island Cemetery at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers will be Liam Mulholland, Noah McCleary, Mike Dillon, Todd Stineman, Andrew 'Bub' Wagg. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Doug was born on November 18, 1953, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Rosemary Wagg.

He graduated from Wapello High School, Class of 1972. He ran Jack and Jill for 25 years in Wapello, was a volunteer firefighter for Letts Fire Department for 20 years, and retired as a Facilities Management Maintenance Supervisor for the University of Iowa in the engineering department in November of 2019.

Doug enjoyed cooking, grilling, fixing things, and helping people with anything. He had a heart of gold. He was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most of all, he was a devoted dad to his daughters, loving grandpa to his grandchildren who knew him best as 'Papa Wagg', and loved his dog, Snickers.

He will be missed by his two daughters, Amanda McCleary and husband, Mathew, their children, Noah and Natalie, of Fruitland, and Stacy Wagg and significant other, Matt Mulholland, their son, Liam, of Cedar Rapids; three siblings, Karen and Norman Stone of Wapello, Connie (Noel) Stineman of Grandview, and Tom and Brenda Wagg of Cedar Rapids.

Douglas is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Natalie Marie McCleary 'Nato'; his parents, Howard and Rosemary Wagg; and one brother-in-law, Noel Stineman.
