ELIZABETH J. HEIRIGS

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Elizabeth J. Heirigs, 86, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at her home.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Ss. Mary Mathias Church. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held following the visitation. Betty was born on December 18, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Herrington Cook. She was united in marriage with Robert Heirigs on September 13, 1958, at the Redemptorist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2013.

She was a member of Ss. Mary Mathias Catholic Parish and was in charge of decorating the church for many years.

Betty enjoyed antiquing, word searches and Jeopardy. As much as she disliked winter season, she enjoyed collecting snowmen. She loved traveling with her husband, Bob, and taking river cruises. Most of all, she loved family dinners and cooking for her family.

Betty is survived by her children, Christina J. Barnum and her husband, Thomas, and Steve Heirigs and his wife, Heidi; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Daniel, Benjamin, William, Joseph, and Taylor; her great grandchildren, Thomas and Emily; and her special friends, John and Ann Wunder and Don and Linda Kraklio.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Heirigs; son, James J Heirigs; and her siblings, JoAnn Aylward and Tom Cook.
