EUGENIA IONE BOYNTON HOCKING
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Eugenia Ione Boynton Hocking, 98, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Addington Place, in the company of friends and family.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Le Buhn will officiate. A time for food and fellowship will immediately follow at the Chapel of Praise Church. Memorials may be made to Chapel of Praise or Riding for Success. Private Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online Condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com
Genie was born on October 28, 1927, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene W. and Ione Hoopes Boynton. She married Fred Doble Hocking Sr. on August 12, 1951. He preceded her in death. She later married Jack Nickerson on December 4, 1998, in Muscatine.
Genie graduated from Muscatine High School in 1946, Teacher’s College at Northern Iowa and taught school in Preston, Iowa for five years. She also taught school in Muscatine Community School District at Garfield Elementary for four years.
Genie spent a big part of her life practicing her Christianity. Genie was always heavily involved with her church community whenever she attended. In recent years she attended Chapel of Praise. Her relationship with Jesus was the most important thing in her life. Genie and Fred were one of the founding members of The Church of the Living Waters, and helped build the building they are currently in. She was a member of PEO Chapter FC, DAR, and Colonial Dames.
She loved nature, identifying trees, gardening and she even grew prize winning roses. Genie enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband, traveling to Palm Beach, Florida, collecting Mississippi River shells, and precious stones. Genie loved history, especially Asian Art. She opened her own stone store in Muscatine called Genie’s Gems. She also enjoyed the companionship of her horse, Trixie, and many pets she cared for over the years. She loved her quilting group.
Genie was blessed by good health and spent her later years at Addington Place, where she loved listening to music. She loved life and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Genie was a great role model and a teacher that someone could learn from.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Fred G. Hocking Jr. of Colorado; grandchildren, Sunshine Regiacorte and husband, Nicholas of Illinois, Julie Howlett and husband, Warren, and family of Colorado, James Hocking and wife, Claire, and family of Australia, and Lorie McClenin and husband, Michael, and family of Idaho; great grandchildren, Gianluigi and Andre; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Hocking of Nebraska; niece, Natalie Ann Noble Munday, and her daughter, Elizabeth J. Weber and Kody Bass, and her son, Brett Noble; Tyler and Micky Noble, Jack Cannon, Ritter Noble and Paige Johnson; and Malachi and Noa Noble; Sara Sabbath Reusswig and husband David of Muscatine and their family Matthew Reusswig and wife Amber and their son Henry Reusswig-Welch, Phil Reusswig and wife, Alice Ho and their daughter, Lily Reusswig, and Emily Reusswig and her husband Patrick Whalen, Beth Ann Sabbath and her husband Tim Quinn and their family, Joseph Quinn, Charles Quinn, and Ione Quinn, all of Virginia, and Sunshine’s mother, Linnea Fonseca, of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her sons, John Doble Hocking and Guy E. Hocking; her daughter, Ann Eaby; daughter in law, Doris; and her sisters, Elizabeth Noble and Barbara Sabbath.
