Evie was born on August 20, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa and was raised in the nearby town of Welton by her parents, Alverda and Walter Kershaw. She was an outstanding student and was the Valedictorian of the Welton High School class of 1956. She was involved in numerous school activities including playing for the basketball and softball teams, as well as participating in band and chorus.
After graduating from high school, she worked a number of jobs including employment at the Rock Island Arsenal, the Registars Office at Iowa State University and Sherwin-Williams in Muscatine. However, she took her greatest pride in her work as a teacher’s aide in the Pre-School Early Childhood Special Education program at McKinley and Colorado Schools, where she worked for many years until her retirement.
Always active in her church and the community, Evie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church Women’s Group 5 and sang in the choir and played in the Bell Choir. She was President of her P.E.O. Chapter, was an active participant in the Phoenix Club, T.T.T. and M.A.R.S.P.A. She was also a member of the Resident Advocate Committee at Lutheran Homes.
Evie was known for her infectious laugh, her love of people, her exquisite handwriting and her outstanding Bridge playing skills. She was a huge fan of sports and faithfully attended Iowa Hawkeye Football games for decades. She was the ultimate Mom when it came to her support and belief in the greatness of her sons, Mike and Craig Marr. She will be forever missed by her sons and her husband of 67 years, Richard (Dick) Marr.
She is survived by her husband, Dick, sons Mike (wife Barb) and Craig (wife Ann) and her grandchildren Erich Marr, Eve Myers (husband Senibo), Katie Brueggen (husband Travis) and Mia Crusto. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Ryan and Alyssa Marr, Avery, Abilene, Royal and Tyson Brueggen and Zayda and Nova Myers.
