GARY VAUGHN MONTAGNA
MUSCATINE, IA – Gary Vaughn Montagna, 65, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at home.
The Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion on August 16th, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in Muscatine. Gary was born on August 29, 1960, in Muscatine, the son of Marcus Sr. and Nina (Grady) Montagna. He and his siblings lived in Barstow, California before moving back to Muscatine. Gary married Linda Lou BeVier on May 2nd, 1979 in Muscatine and they had four children.
Gary was a 1979 graduate of Muscatine High School. He retired from working at the DOT on road maintenance.
Gary was an avid collector and had many hobbies. Gary had a true love for the outdoors and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing, camping, and landscaping. He also enjoyed building model airplanes, cars, woodworking projects, and painted for many years.
Gary lived life with a big heart and an unwavering love for his family. Above all, Gary loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gary treasured his family and will be remembered for his caring heart and the love he gave so freely.
Gary is survived by his children, Amanda (Jamie) Golden, Brandy (Steve) Harfst, Chad (Elsa) Montagna, and Dale “Murphy” Montagna; ten grandchildren, Simon, Sunny, Ryan, Wyatt, Charlotte, Meah, Marley, Antonia, Donatella, and Landon; one great grandson, William; and siblings, Kim Kneese, Marcus (Diana) Montagna Jr.; Robert Montagna, Gloria (Jerry) Schmelzer, and Robin Leaf; and his beloved collie, Jake.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gale McIntosh and Johnny Montagna; and brother-in-law, Scott Leaf.
