JAMES EDWARD BERMEL

MUSCATINE, Iowa – James Edward Bermel, 81, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Ss. Mary Mathias Catholic Church. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rosary will follow the visitation. James was born on July 21, 1944, in Muscatine, the son of Frank E. and Cleo L. Carter Bermel. He married Susan Fifer on October 15, 1977, in East Moline, Illinois.

James a member of the Ss. Mary Mathias Catholic Parish, American Legion, and the Marine Corp Vet. He retired from Allsteel in 2001.

James enjoyed fishing, his wife’s cooking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

James is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Jesse (Ashley) Bermel and Jason Bermel; grandchildren, Wynnie and Evie Bermel; and siblings, Janet (John) Derksen, Ronald (Deb) Bermel.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Bermel.
