JAMES WARREN CODER

LETTS, Iowa - James Warren Coder, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at home, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Private services will be held at a later date. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James' honor, in care of Carolyn, for a Red Oak tree to be planted on his farm. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com

James was born on June 7, 1940, at his 3rd generation family farmstead in Letts, the son of Marvin Herbert and Elsie Smith Coder. He married Carolyn Gerdts on July 3, 1960, in Oak Grove Church. They were together for 63 years.

He was a graduate of Letts High School, Class of 1959. He worked for ThermaGas for many years and farmed for over 50 years. He was the Cedar Township Trustee, and a member of the Letts town council.

His family always came first. James also enjoyed fishing and farming.

James is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. Coder of Letts; two children, Lee Coder of Letts, and Pam Coder of Davenport; daughter-in-law, Julie Coder of Dubuque; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, John Coder and wife, Joyce, of Letts; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark in 2022; and sister, Doloras in infancy.
