JASON J. SCHMELZER

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Jason J. Schmelzer, 50, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at his home from an extended illness.

There will not be any services at this time. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Rhonda Lowe. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.         

Jason was born on February 14, 1974, in Muscatine, the son of Richard Schmelzer and Shirley Gray Moss.

Jason loved the Hulk, David Banner, and was a big Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan. He also loved Tupac and anything audio. Jason was tall, handsome, and very funny man. He was a collector of old things and antiques. He enjoyed tinkering with things.  

Jason graduated from Muscatine High School.

He would call himself ‘uncle pimp’ to his nephew and nieces. He was also very witty and smart, in his own way, he could turn nothing into something. Jason loved his family very much, especially his nieces and nephews, he had an extra special bond with Miranda and Michael Lowe. Jason had four children that he loved with all his heart.

Jason loved his mother; they had a love-hate relationship. They both really needed each other. They would joke around with each other, he taught her ‘Muccateen’ while flashing gang hands. He could do a great impression of Scar Face, Tony Montana, while “say hello to my little friend.”

Jason will be deeply missed by his children, Bryan, Alexander, Caden, and Alivia; siblings, Sheryl Hartung and her children, Megan,  Steve, Joshua, Sean, and Katie, Debbie Levonyak and her husband, Mark, and their children,  Dr. Nicholas, Alec, and Christopher, Rhonda Lowe and her husband, Gary, and their children, Miranda and Michael, Matthew Hartung, and his wife Susan, and their children Hunter and Grayson, and Rick Schmelzer, and his daughter Kendra.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.
