JERRY LEO VERWERS

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Jerry Leo Verwers, 86, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Accura Health Care of Muscatine.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Bryan Newswander will officiate. Burial will take place in Harker Cemetery.

Jerry was born on August 21, 1939, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Ethelyne Appledorn Verwers. He married Carole L. Adkins on September 3, 1960, in Grinnell, Iowa.

He graduated from Grinnell High School, then graduated from Iowa State University with an electrical engineering degree, and then received his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. Jerry worked as an electrical engineer for Stanley Consultants for over 40 years before retiring.

Jerry was an active member of Westside Assembly of God, a Cub Scout leader, an avid stamp collector, and a true farmer at heart. He enjoyed woodworking and riding bicycles, participating in RAGBRI during the originating years.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Verwers; two sons, Daniel Verwers and wife, Terri, David Verwers and wife, Carolyn; five grandchildren, Jamie (Jorge) Leza, Brandon Verwers, Kayla (Levi) Lemon, Austin (Madison) Verwers, and Nathan Pelham; and seven great grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kathryn Verwers.
