JOANN MCCLEARY

MUSCATINE, Iowa – JoAnn McCleary, 91, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Bettendorf Healthcare Nursing Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Ss. Mary Mathias Church. The Reverend Isaac Doucette will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.         

JoAnn was born on May 9, 1933, in Muscatine, the daughter of Otto A. and Verna M. Schlipf Fabrizius. She married Joseph A. McCleary on October 4, 1953, at the St. Mary’s Church in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2017.  

JoAnn was a member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish and Belles of St. Mary’s. JoAnn and her husband were owners and operators of Joe’s Market on South Highway 61.

JoAnn enjoyed country music concerts, especially Conway Twitty, and collecting paper dolls. She loved her cats very much.

JoAnn in survived by her two daughters, Debbie McCleary of Silvis, Illinois, and Peggy McCleary of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; and sister, Dolores Schaapveld.
