JOAN FUEGEN

MUSCATINE, IA – G. Joan Fuegen, 81, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Ss. Mary Mathias Church. Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ss. Mary Mathias Parish. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Joan was born on December 24, 1944, in Muscatine, the daughter of Harlen J. ‘Chuck’ and Gertrude Westerman Merrill. She married Verne Fuegen on October 24, 1964.

She was a member of Ss. Mary Mathias Parish and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, and gathering for holidays with family. She especially loved big family gatherings for her birthday on Christmas Eve. She truly loved and enjoyed her time spent with her family.

Joan is survived by her husband, Verne Fuegen; three sons, Tim Fuegen (Denise), Jeff Fuegen, and Matt Fuegen (Adam Wade); her daughter, Beth Hanna (John); eight grandchildren, Lucas Hines, Gretchen Hines, Desiree Fuegen, Trayton Fuegen, Olivia Fuegen, Jackson Fuegen, Griffin Hanna, and Kaelyn Hanna; and three great grandchildren, Ethan Roupas, Quinn Hanna, and Parker Hanna.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathryn Hines (John); brothers, Ronnie and Charles Merrill.
