JOHN E. BARTENHAGEN

MUSCATINE, Iowa – John E. Bartenhagen, 86, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at home.

Close family and friends will gather at a porch party in honor of John. Military services will be conducted by the United States Army and the Moline American Legion. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society or It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources in honor of John. John was born on October 22, 1937, in Muscatine on the Island, the son of Carl and Mildred Hillmer Bartenhagen. He married Lana Lamp, the love of his life, on January 11, 1964, at St. Mathias, in Muscatine. They were married for 60 years.

John was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany. He graduated Catholic High in 1955 and attended Muscatine Community College. He worked at Muscatine Power and Water for 25 years as a shift supervisor and then retired.

John loved his family and dogs very much. He enjoyed hiking, traveling, jazz music, and ran many rode races. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

John is survived by his wife, Lana; sons, Joe Paul Bartenhagen (Bergendi Hatch) of Salt Lake City, Utah and John Michael Bartenhagen (Sabrina Vargus) of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Jacob Bartenhagen (Rocio Velasco) and April Bartenhagen; brother, Mike Bartenhagen (Claudia) of Panama; and sisters-in-law, Vikki Curry (Terry) and Kathie Lamp.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, David C. Bartenhagen; two sisters, Josephine Ann Schneider and Barb Maisenbach; and mother-in-law, Virginia Ellen Lamp.
