JOYCE KAY STYCH

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Joyce Stych, 84, of Muscatine passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Pearl City Place, Muscatine.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Susan Bantz will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m., on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rett Syndrome Foundation, in Joyce’s granddaughters name, Allison Stych. Joyce was born on September 6, 1941, in Louisa County, the daughter of Gerald W. and Alberta M. Gerling Courtney. She married Maynard Stych on September 10, 1960, at St. Mary’s in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2023.

Joyce was a member of St. Mary Mathias. She graduated from Wapello High School, worked for Muscatine Travel for many years, and retired from Travel and Transport with Bandag.

She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and grandkids. Her joy was sitting outside their condo with her husband watching golfers and talking to neighbors. She played bridge for many years with friends, enjoyed a nice glass of wine, and loved her home.

Joyce is survived by her children, Todd Stych and wife Sara, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, and Stephanie Anson and husband, Doug, of Muscatine; grandchildren, Jennifer Salazar and husband, Joey, Corey Stych, Emily Stych, Sharise Hartsock and husband, Ryan, Kassidy Harrison; great grandchildren, Trey, Noah, Sophia, and Alexandria Salazar, Liam and Saige Hartsock, Paisley Harrison, and Ezekiel Nunez; three siblings, Tom Courtney and wife, Nancy, of Burlington, Iowa, Judy Morgan and husband, Walt, of Tucson, Arizona, and Larry Courtney of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Chris Soltwedel.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter, Allison Stych; and siblings, Jerry, Mike, Bonnie Jean, and Patricia.
