JUDITH E. MERRITT
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Judith E. Merritt, 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on August 2, 2025, at the Rendezvous. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Faith United Church of Christ. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com
Judy was born on July 31, 1946, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of John Prins and Hendrika Boer. She married Jon Merritt on December 1, 1966, in Oak Park, Illinois.
Judy was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ and was in the hand bell choir, the Faith Ringers. She volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels.
Judy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching, even making hats for newborns and donating them to hospitals. She enjoyed gardening around her house. She also loved baking, especially bread, granola, strawberry rhubarb crisp. Judy loved travelling with Jon and her family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband, Jon; daughters, Kelly Merritt and Diane Merritt; grandchildren, Zana (David), Lena (Justin), Dayton, and Brayden; great grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Amber, Miranda, Libby, Easton, and Wyatt; many nieces and nephews; and siblings, Robert Prins, Eileen Prins, Reg Prins, Iris Gibson, and Sue Prins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Andy; infant daughter, Christine; and two brothers, Gerry and Charles Prins.
