LEO DUANE ASKAM

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Leo Duane Askam, 92, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at his home.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. A time for food and fellowship will follow the service at the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to donors’ choice, in honor of Leo. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.         

Leo was born on January 30, 1932, in Muscatine, the son of Clark and Irma Evelyn Finley Askam. He married Joann Rose Marks on March 20, 1965, in Muscatine.

Leo attended Muscatine High School and played basketball. He retired from GPC after 35 years, 15 years of those were perfect attendance.

Leo enjoyed bowling, even got inducted into the Muscatine Bowlers Hall of Fame on May 3, 2019. He bowled for 30 years on his bowling team, Daddyooo and The Boys. Golfing was another one of his favorite hobbies and was proud of getting a hole in one at Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. He enjoyed traveling and taking his grandkids on vacations. He loved going dancing on Saturday nights with Joann. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandkids and his great granddaughter.   

Leo is survived by his wife, Joann; children, Mark Tompkins, Craig Askam (Wendy), and Brad Askam (Regina); grandchildren, Jacob Askam (Ashley), Megan Rodriguez (Roy), Ryan Askam (Luci), and Kiersten Askam; great granddaughter, Navy Elizabeth Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Melody Tompkins and Michael Tompkins; sisters, Wilma, Marie, Dorothy, Florence, Helen, Margaret, and Betty; and brothers, Herbert, Lester, Clark, and Walter.
