MARY JONES

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Mary Michal (Lister) Jones, 82, was born in Sheldon, Iowa, on March 18th, 1944, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10th, with loved ones at her side.

Mary was the middle child of Eugene and Arlene (Rooney) Lister. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Sheldon and Muscatine, Iowa and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1962. Mary then attended Muscatine Community College. Her love of flowers and plants, antiques, crafts, and children meant she worked in floral shops, owned her own business (The Country Peddler), and was a daycare provider over the years. Mary married Jerry Jones on September 26, 1965, in Muscatine, Iowa, where they raised their three children, Angela, Michael, and Rebecca. They later divorced. Mary loved her family deeply. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and grandma.

Although Mary was faced with many challenges in life, she never let those challenges define her. Instead, she will be remembered by her strong faith, family, and sassy sense of humor. Mary's heart was in gardening, needlework, and anything creative. She was an active member of St. Mathias Church. She loved to knit scarves, hats and blankets for anyone who needed one! Her warm smile, sparkle in her eye, and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her children Angela Jones, Michael (Jamie) Jones, Rebecca (Chad) Zeck, all of Muscatine, IA; her beloved siblings, John (Mary) Lister of Fremont, WI and Kathy (Barry) Snider of Shorewood, WI; niece Emily (James) Blake and nephew Jason (Jane) Snider. Mary was blessed with beautiful grandchildren who she adored, Zachary Jirak (Reese Ranum), Danielle Jones (Logon Matthews), Cooper Zeck (Haley Jarrett), Gabe Jones, and Sawyer Zeck (Grace Zorich). Mary is also survived by several great grandchildren and another coming in July.

Her parents, Eugene and Arlene Lister, and ex-husband, Jerry Jones, preceded Mary in death.
