RONALD DEAN BRUNK

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Ronald Dean Brunk, 82, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Per Ronald’s request, there will be no services.  The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Legion or Muscatine Humane Society. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com

Ronald was born on April 17, 1943, in Bloomfield, Iowa, the son of Willis and Leora Howard Brunk. He married Sharron Whitacre on November 13, 1965. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2025.

Ronald graduated from Chicago Technical college. He came to Muscatine and started his career working for Joe Rauch at Modern Metals as a draftsman. He later retired from Design Build. 

He enjoyed ‘making wood’ and each one was a unique masterpiece. Ron and his wife wintered in South Padre, Texas for ten years and were considered ‘Winter Texans’. They also loved to travel to tropical places together. One of his favorite things to do was to go out with friends and family, always saying “let’s just have just one more and we’ll go”. 

Ronald is survived by his children, David (Danielle ‘Didi’) Brunk and Beth (Doug ‘Chup’) Chalupa; grandchildren, Griffin (Martha) Brunk, Morgan Brunk, Riley Brunk (Ryan Arnold), Quinn Chalupa, Tate Brunk, Maura Chalupa (Brook McCormick), Savannah Law, and Ellis Ferreira; great grandson, Giovanni Brunk;  and best friends, Brad and Mary Kisner, Bob and Courtney Ferreira, Robert and Yvonne McConnaha.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. 

We would like to thank Connie from St. Croix Hospice. We also want to thank Courtney Ferreira and Quinn Chalupa for spending evenings with dad since mom’s passing. Also, an extra big thanks to Amy Sulzberger, and Maggie Strong for taking such good care of dad and becoming part of the family.
