MUSCATINE, Iowa – Sandra ‘Sandy’ Kay Kaska, 81, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital in Rock Island.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Dan Schoepf will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Derek Reed, Cody Kaska, Casey Kaska, Jake Ford, Greg Cooper, and Steve Dusenberry. Honorary pallbearer is David Riggan. Sandy was born on August 9, 1941, in Muscatine, the daughter of Glenn and Shirley Thompson Paul. She married Dr. William Charles Gremmels. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2012. She later married Dwight A. Kaska on October 4, 2014 in Muscatine.
Sandy had a great sense of humor. She loved her family and enjoyed boating, fishing, walking her dogs, decorating for the holidays, wearing seasonal clothing, and always had her nails decorated for each season to celebrate the holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight A. Kaska of Muscatine; three children, Sue Gremmels-Sours and husband, Robert, of Illinois City, Robert ‘Bob’ Gremmels and wife, Pam, of Fall Brook, California, and Jerry Purviance and wife, Kathy, of Wilton; five grandchildren, Carlli, Brooke, Amanda, Ashley, and Derek; two great grandchildren, Ayvin and Simmi; brothers and sisters-in-law, Angela McDonough and husband, Mike, of Monticello, Judith Kanis and husband, Bryan, of Altoona, L. Duane Kaska and wife, Dawn, of Muscatine; and Cindy Cooper and husband, Greg, of Cedar Rapids; and her best friend, Jane Wieskamp.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one daughter, Kathryn ‘Kat’ Gremmels; two brothers, Mike and Jim Paul; and her mother and father-in-law, Lawrence ‘Larry’ and Dorothy Kaska.
