SHARRON ‘KAY’ BRUNK
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Sharron ‘Kay’ Brunk, 80, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family and best friends. Those who knew Kay, knew she always would be smiling.
Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the American Legion. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family, in the care of Ronald, for the purchase of a plaque at the hospital dedicated to Dr. Asthalter, whom mentored Kay at the beginning of her career and/or to the Muscatine Humane Society. Kay was born on July 31, 1944, in Bloomfield, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Omer and Mary Maurine Spilman Whitacre. She married Ronald Brunk on November 13, 1965.
Kay graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and worked as a lifelong registered nurse and volunteered at the hospital.
Kay enjoyed cooking, drinking Chardonnay, going to the casino, reading, and puzzles. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips, especially wintering in Texas. She loved spending time with Luna, their adopted dog. She loved her extended family, especially spending time with her grandkids.
Kay is survived by her husband, Ronald; children, David (Danielle ‘Didi’) Brunk and Beth (Doug ‘Chup’) Chalupa; grandchildren, Griffin (Martha) Brunk, Morgan Brunk, Riley (Ryan) Brunk, Quinn Chalupa, Tate Brunk, Maura Chalupa, Savannah Law, and Ellis Ferreira; great grandson, Giovanni Brunk; brother, Ken (Lois) Whitacre; nephews, Derek (Maricela) Whitacre and Dain (Taylor) Whitacre; and best friends, Brad and Mary Kisner, Robert and Courtney Ferreira, and Robert and Yvonne McConnaha.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
