SHAWN WESLEY THORNTON

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Shawn W. Thornton, 44, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Dan Schoepf will officiate.  Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of his wife, Bethany Thornton.

Shawn was born on June 20, 1981, in Dewitt, the son of Wesley and Sue Ostert Thornton. He was united in marriage with Bethany L. Hugill on July 18, 2009, in Muscatine.

He worked for Curry’s Trucking.

Shawn enjoyed fishing, boating and belly flops into the pool. His happy place was going to the Lake of the Ozarks. He loved watching football, especially the Vikings. He played on the Riverhawks. He loved getting together for the holidays.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Bethany Thornton of Muscatine; his daughters, Emma, Peyton, and Taylor Thornton all of Muscatine; his son, Brayden Thornton of Muscatine; his parents, Wesley Thornton and Sue Thornton both of Muscatine; his siblings, Amanda Wagner (Jason), Travis Thornton (Patti), Wesley Thornton (Holly), Kayla Thornton (Lucas), Christopher Thornton, and Brianna Thornton (Noel); grandmother, Nancy Thornton; his mother in law, Jayne Estabrook (Kevin) of Muscatine; Father in law, Fred Hugill (Susan) of St. Louis, MO; Sister in laws, Adriane Bynum (Chris) of Muscatine, and Kristen Tobias (Mike), of Durant; several nieces and nephews; and great ma and great pa, Ron and Pat Hagens of Muscatine.

Shawn is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bruce, Shirley, and Darrel; uncle, Dennis Ostert; and cousin, Gwendolyn Lange.
