STEPHEN RAY HINDAHL

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Stephen Ray Hindahl, 78, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Lutheran Living, surrounded by his family.

A private funeral service will be held at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Bruce Martin will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Church and Muscatine Community Conservation Foundation, in honor of Stephen. Stephen was born on August 30, 1946, in Muscatine, the son of Harry and Elaine Elder Hindahl. He married Pamela Sprouse on July 1, 2002, in Muscatine.

Stephen graduated High School in 1965. He attended Shasta Community College and graduated from Chico State in Redding, California with his physical education degree. Stephen served in the US Army from 1966-1968. He was drafted to Vietnam from 1967-1968, getting wounded in Vietnam and receiving his purple heart. He worked at the Muscatine Post Office for 33 years. He attended Calvary Church.

He was always available to help his loved ones, no matter the task. He coached for the Muscatine Youth Baseball and was always willing to give pitching practice to the neighborhood kids. He enjoyed playing golf with his golfing buddies. He enjoyed attending any Iowa sporting events with his son, Nick. He never met a stranger. Every time he saw someone smiling, he would ask, “How ya doin?” with a warm smile. Stephen was an avid beekeeper. His greatest gift would be delivering his “Steve’s Honey Bees” honey to his friends and family. Stephen loved spending time with his family and dog, Sawyer.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Pamela Sprouse Hindahl of Muscatine; children, Nick Hindahl (Kendy), and their children, Kendrick, Beckham, and Harper of New Braunfels, Texas, Troy McFate (Aruna), and their son Landon of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Nikki Wright (Tron), and Nikki’s children, Dalton (Hadley) and Peyton of Forsyth, Illinois; sister, Sherry Hindahl; in-laws, Cathy (Kyle) Reifert of Muscatine; and his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
