STEVE HAZELWOOD

MUSCATINE, IA – Steve Hazelwood, 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Trinity Rock Island Hospital.

The Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private family service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Any memorials may be made in his honor to the Muscatine Church of Christ for the many visits, cookies, and prayers. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Steve was born on April 14, 1959, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Bud Jr. and JoAnn Toyne Hazelwood. He was injured at the age of 23 and was quadriplegic, yet he kept going every day.

Steve loved sunshine and the summer. He took several “cruises” in the neighborhood daily when weather permitted. He would stop and talk to anyone that would listen. He met many friendly faces at Caseys Steamboat, Palm Theatre, and in the neighborhood. He also cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Indiana Fever.

The family would like to thank Caseys for allowing him to cool off in their beer cooler; Palm Theatres for the ice water and popcorn, and all the many conversations and prayers he enjoyed on his cruises.

He will be remembered by his daughter, Stephanie, as “the greatest dad a daughter could ever have. My forever Dad, you will be missed.”

Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie, and granddaughters Helena and Milan, all of Arizona. His siblings were Marla (Steve) Lee, Jim Hunter, Mark Hazelwood, Brent (Angel) Hazelwood, and Brad Hazelwood, along with nieces and nephews, Travis Lee, Traci Lee Garcia, Hanna Hazelwood, Noah Hazelwood, Owen Hazelwood, Johnny Hazelwood, Jack Beard, Chris Cole and Brandy Moore; and many more great nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his father on November 6, 2018; his mother on November 8, 2004; grandparents, and a sister-in-law, Terry Hunter.
