STEVEN R. SULZBERGER

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Steven R. Sulzberger, 67, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The family requests to dress casually, please wear a racing shirt or something blue to honor Steve’s memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, in care of Kirstin Sulzberger, for a future college fund for all of his grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastor Don Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Steve was born on September 24, 1957, in Muscatine, the son of Jerry Jacob Sulzberger and Barbara Anne Pulliam Sulzberger. He shared his life with two special women.  

He worked for Sulzberger Excavating Inc. Steve was a member and operator of Local Union 150 for 45 years. He was an active member and raced with The Ozark Mountain Super Shifters since 1997.

Steve enjoyed dirt bikes and drag cars and always had the need for speed. He enjoyed being outside building motors and mentoring others, swimming, and grilling. He loved being around people and shooting the shit with everyone, especially harassing his grandkids. He was always happy for others to win. Steve was rough around the edges with a heart of gold.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Kirstin (Beau Meeke) Sulzberger of Muscatine and Tesha (Shane) Stuart of Muscatine; five grandchildren, Madilyn Irene Meeke, Tamrence Louise Meeke, Brance Christian Meeke, Shayla Lou Stuart, and Dregar James Stuart; his step children, Jaz Welch and Jack Kemper and his daughter, Bailee Kemper; his parents, Jerry Sulzberger and Barbara Pulliam Sulzberger of Muscatine; siblings, Craig (Karen) Sulzberger, Barry (Barbie) Sulzberger, Lee (Cindy) Sulzberger, and Jon Sulzberger, all of Muscatine; and many many nieces and nephews with more on the way.

Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents, Goldie and George Sulzberger and Esther and Arnold Pulliam; uncles, Lonnie Sulzberger and Kay Sulzberger; cousins, David Sulzberger and Sam Sulzberger; nephew, Matthew Summitt; and father-in-law, Dutch Curry.
