THEODORE OTHMER
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Theodore 'Ted' E. Othmer, 74, a lifelong resident of Muscatine, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at his home.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Chaplain Maurie Campbell of Iowa City Hospice will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be Larry 'The Greek' Soteros and Lyle Estabrook. Casket bearers will be Zach Othmer, Matthew Malloy, Jim Harmon, Rory Kuhljuergen, Jodi Kuhljuergen, Steve Holladay, Mike Kurriger, and Eric Vaughn. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Iowa City Hospice Program or the Muscatine Humane Society.
Ted was born on December 14, 1936, in Muscatine, the son of Wesley and Ruby Mowl Othmer.
He served in the US Navy from 1955 until 1959.
He married Marcella M. Estabrook on September 9, 1958, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2000.
Ted was a union pipefitter prior to starting his own business, Othmer Plumbing which he operated until his retirement in 2000.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting ducks and geese with his brothers and friends and he also enjoyed fishing. He had a keen sense of humor, enjoyed singing, and getting on the road. He loved his family, his cabin at Lake Odessa, going to flea markets, and his dogs. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Iowa City Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Ted and to his family.
Those left to honor his memory include one son, Perry Othmer and Kristi, of Muscatine; one daughter, Debbie Hawley and husband, Dave, of Vienna, Illinois; five grandchildren, Morgan and Zach Othmer, Matthew and Alyssa Malloy, all of Muscatine, and Bryan Hawley of Meta, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Erin Hawley of Meta, Missouri; two brothers, Fred Othmer and wife, Linda, of Brighton, and Leo Othmer and wife, Joan, of Davenport; three sisters, Mary Jane Fridley and husband, Bob, of Muscatine, Helen Harmon and husband, Gary, of Muscatine, and Barb Cooper and husband, Floyd, of Stronghurst, Illinois; and his partner, Beverly Kuhljuergen of Muscatine, and her children, Rory Kuhljuergen and wife, Piper, of Norwalk, and their son, Devin, Gina Holladay and husband, Steve, of Wilton, and their family, Ty Thompson and wife, Katrina, Tera Thompson and fiancé, Marty, and Mackenzie Holladay, Jodi Kuhljuergen of Muscatine, Jane Kurriger and husband, Mike, of Muscatine, and their children, Braeden, Callie, and Keaton, and Stacy Vaughn and husband, Eric, of Perry, and their daughters, Haley and Sarah; and Beverly's two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Serene Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
