VELMA MAE FERNS

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Velma Mae Ferns passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, surrounded by family.

There will be no services. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Dog Park. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Velma was born on December 15, 1948, in Muscatine, the daughter of Richard and Ethel Hobson Land. She was united in marriage to Andy Ferns on October 11, 1996, he preceded her in death on January 22, 2012.

Velma worked for Thatcher Plastics. When she retired from Thatcher Plastics she started her own cleaning business.

Velma was a St. Jude’s supporter. She loved to go shopping, traveling, and being outside. She loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, many referring to her as ‘GiGi’.

Velma is survived by her children, Melissa ‘Missy’ Lindle, Tamela ‘Tammy’ (John) Marshall, Mike (Misty) Rinnert, and Tonya (Robert) Cook; grandchildren, Josh, Matt, Zach, Kirstie, Tiffany, Taylor, Rachel, Wyatt, Tristan, Ryan, and Drew; great grandchildren, Brantley, Carson, Clarke, Beckett, Henley, Kade, Ryder, Eleanor, Adaline, Elowyn, Lane, Lucas, and Lakin; and siblings, Carol Stingley, Raymond Land, and Thelma Curry.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andy; infant children, Wendy, Laura, Kevin; and siblings, Richard, Phyllis, Barb, Walter, Jennie.
