WAYNE DONALD EVERHART

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Wayne Donald Everhart, 69, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine Hospital in Muscatine.

Celebration of Life will be from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Proof Social, 208 W. 2nd Street, Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Vicki. The Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Wayne was born on November 10, 1956, to Donald W. Everhart and Gertrude (Eggen) Everhart in Muscatine, Iowa. He married Vicki Kleist on June 18, 1993 in Muscatine, Iowa.

Born and raised in Muscatine county, he grew up down on the Island with his 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He went by Peanut and Pean Bob back then, still does to some. This was a loving name given by his Grandfather Eggen when he was a little boy (because he carried around a blanket like Linus from the Peanuts comics). He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1975 and remained a lifelong Muskie fan.

Wayne loved spending time with his family and kids. Whether he was simply serving up a meal made with love in the kitchen or traveling to Minnesota for quality time with Josh, Michelle, and all the grandkids, his family filled him with love and pride.

Wayne had solid friend groups and enjoyed spending time with his siblings. From early trips with his brother Dave, Karen, and all the kids out west to Harley Davidson rides near and far with his brother John and friends, Joe Vastine and his brothers, and cruising locally with Boonie, Andy, Freddie, Jim, Danny, Mike, and many other friends, he always kept good company. And we can’t forget his bowling league buddies, Mike Klein, Paul Haller, Tim Christensen, and Toby Sanders or his disc gold crew with his brothers Dave, Brian, and Joe Everhart, and Matt Everhart, Tony Kern, and Justin Bishop.

Wayne worked at the HON Co Geneva Plant for 41 years. He had a tight-knit group there, too. They called him Sparky, a name he got back in the 80’s out of irony because it was nearly impossible to rile him up. His supervisor at the plant, Joe Vastine, said, “he was as mellow as they came… I would have taken a hundred Sparky’s.” Even in work, Wayne was nothing but kind. Soft-spoken with a big heart.

After retiring, Wayne enjoyed the sweet life. From stepping into full-time duties of being the house handyman and pool boy (something he did with a snorkel mask on, mind you), to enjoying trips to Florida, playing slots at the casino and watching sports, he kept himself busy. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. The biweekly poker games at Rick Whitsel’s house never failed to provide entertainment, laughter, and a few good stories.

Unfortunately this bliss was cut short in 2023 when Wayne was diagnosed with cancer. He was so thankful for his Warriors who took him to treatments; John Everhart, Cord Kleist, Larry Kleist, Bob Dierickx, Mike and Cathy Bermel, Becki Petersen, and Dave Everhart. To all those who visited Wayne over the years at Lutheran Living, we thank you on his behalf.

Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife, Vicki Everhart; children, Michelle Wright of Oakdale, Minnesota, Joshua Everhart and wife, Jodee, of Woodbury, Minnesota, Alexandrea Colberg and Adam Roush of Fairfield, Iowa, Serena Everhart and husband, Connor McCourtney of North Aurora, Illinois; grandchildren, Leo, Stella, Iris, and Lily Wright, Dayne and Mila Everhart, Amellee, Piper, and Daphne Colberg, and Piper McCourtney; along with a great grandchild, Jace Everhart; siblings, Diane Bedford and Sid Davidson of Arizona City, Arizona, John Everhart and wife, Ruth, of Blue Grass, Iowa, Aida Everhart of Escondido, California, David Everhart, Becki Petersen and husband, Gary, Brian Everhart and wife, Kelly, all of Muscatine, and Joe Everhart and Jeanne Bishop of Letts, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Julie, Sarah, Matt, Angie, Tatia, Jenny, Katie, Mike, Ethan, Brianna, Fran, Cara, Shea, Heather, Jason, Chance, Cord, and Trevor; 25 great nieces and nephews; and eight great great nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Donald Everhart; parents-in-law, Betty and Walter Kleist; one sister, Nancy Everhart; one sister-in-law, Karen Everhart; and one brother, Richard Everhart.
