ZACHARY SCOTT GOODWIN

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Zachary Scott Goodwin, 43, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Zach was born on August 23, 1981, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Rickie Goodwin and Vickie Hindbaugh Meerdink. He married Gloria Cerda on November 21, 2020, in Coralville.

Zach had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Catholic church. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

Zach was very generous and never knew a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, working out, going to church, and martial arts. He was an excellent artist and was always doing projects around the house. He took pride in all his work and was very talented and even mentored other Christian men that were struggling with addictions, mental health, and other spiritual challenges. Zach had a great sense of humor, was loving, kind, and would help anyone out. Zach was his happiest when he was spending time with his family.

Zach is survived by his wife, Gloria Goodwin of Coralville; sons, Austin (Maria) Meerdink and Brock Meerdink, both of Bettendorf, Iowa; stepchildren, Alessandra Vargas, Adriana Vargas, and David ‘Tuki’ Vargas all of Coralville; parents, Vickie Meerdink and Rick Goodwin; siblings, Mikhala (Anthony) Wolf Mueller and Joshua Goodwin; half siblings, Joshua Goodwin, Derrick Goodwin, Antonio Goodwin, and Alejandra Goodwin; aunts, Julie Andreas and Terry Hindbaugh; uncle, Otis Hindbaugh; many beloved aunts and uncles; niece and nephews, Addyson Kelley, Anthony Kelley, Andrew Graham, and Alice Graham; and cousins, Jacob White and Dustin Andreas, Sondra Phelps, and Luna White.

Zach is preceded in death by grandparents, Otis and Mary Hindbaugh; uncle, Jerry Hindbaugh; aunt, Shawne Hindbaugh; cousin, Trevor White; and great grandparents, Pearl and Bud Hazelwood.
