I met Scott about six years ago in Qingdao, China. We had almost an instant bond, being that we were both from the Midwest. We shared birthdays together, and would often talk about politics and sports, and we also played cribbage together on many occasions. Scott volunteered his time to assist me with my Petroleum University English corners, and was always available to help me whenever I needed it. He was my closest American friend in China and he will be sorely missed.

We are sincerely sorry for your loss. Scott Sayles was an accomplished attorney with a 1996 Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin and more recently a beloved and highly respected teacher and lecturer at China Petroleum University in Qingdao, China. He will be dearly missed by hundreds of his students and numerous colleagues who were fortunate to have known him and learned from him. Scott was gentle and compassionate teacher who has guided many students towards their personal and professional success. May God give him his well deserved peace and give his family patience and time for retrospection. We will miss you our dearest friend. Armin Behmen with colleagues.
