ED SIERING
MUSCATINE, IOWA - Edwin H. (Ed) Siering, Jr., 91, passed away at Lutheran Homes Senior Campus, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Ed Siering, 91, of Muscatine will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at St. Mathias Catholic Church. Burial and military rites will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Muscatine following the service.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00pm on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. There will be a funeral vigil following visitation at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Ed was born August 21, 1932, St. Louis, MO. To Edwin & Adeline Siering. At 9 months of age, the Siering family relocated to Helena, Arkansas where Ed spent his formative years. The family later moved back to St. Louis where he attended high school and college, which was interrupted by service in the Army. After basic training and clerk typist school, he was sent to Ft. Ben Harrison, where he was taught shorthand and the Code of Military Justice, and then to Orleans, France where he was assigned to the General staff. When discharged from the Army, Siering immediately resumed his academics and enrolled at St. Louis University, graduating with an accounting major.

In June 1955, he married Margaret (Peggy) Siering at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Louis. He went to work for Ralston Purina Company as a cost accountant, grain trader, and manager in the purchasing department. In the intervening years, work assignments moved the family to Kansas City, Omaha, Stockton, CA. and finally back to St. Louis.

In 1969, Ed left Purina and went to work for Kent Feeds, where he retired as Senior Vice President, Commodities and served on the Board of Directors. Ed was also Chairman of the Board, Evergreen Mills, a wholly owned company of Kent Feeds.

He served on the Board of Directors, Geneva Country Club. He was the Treasurer for Birthright of Muscatine. Ed delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years and worked as a volunteer for the John Deere Classic. He served several terms on the Parish Council, and as a Eucharistic Minister. Ed was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He greatly enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, running, biking, riding Ragbrai five times. He ran in many road races around Iowa. He had a group of friends with whom he fished all over from Panama to the Arctic Circle. Ed greatly loved an annual excursion for walleye fishing in Canada with his sons and grandsons.

Ed loved his family above all else. He leaves behind son Tom (Jill), grandchildren Patrick (Molly), Dan (Taylor), Theo, Lila, Callie, & Hogan, great grandchildren Lottie, Thomas, Elaine, Winifred, and Cedar and daughter-in-law Tammy Terrill Siering, his sisters Jean Lorbert, Alyce Korte, and Margaret Wenger (Paul), and many nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him in passing were his wife Peggy of 65 years, sons Mike and Christopher, sisters Joan Mirth, Ruth Jacobs, brothers Wray and Andrew.
